Zander was born on 06/07/08 at 4:40 in the morning at the American Fork Hospital. We were excited about the date because it shouldn't be too hard to remember...6, 7, 8. He was five pounds and eleven ounces and eighteen and one half inches long. We actually didn't check into the hospital until 3:30, so the delivery was pretty fast. I waited too long at home because he was nearly three full weeks early, and I didn't want to get sent home. By the time we got checked in, I was ready for my epidural :) Unfortunately, we had to do some monitoring and get an IV in with a full bag of fluids before they could give me the epidural. The anesthesiologist came in and gave me the epidural around 4:30. After he left, it was already time to start pushing. Unfortunately, the epidural didn't kick in quick enough. I think I started to feel some relief while Zander was half way out. Next time, we will get to the hospital quicker. When Zander was born he had a hard time breathing, so they rushed him to the NICU before I could even hold him. It was over two hours before I could go down to visit him. At that time they had already put him on a C-PAP machine which blew oxygen into his lungs. At 4:30 in the afternoon (12 hours after birth) a Life Flight team hooked him up to a ventilator and transported him by ground to the Utah Valley Regional Hospital NICU. It was really hard to have them take him away while I had to stay at the American Fork Hospital. On Sunday, my doctor approved me to sign a temporary release from my hospital so I could go visit Zander at the other hospital. While I was there, I was able to hold Zander for the first time! He didn't have to be on the ventilator for the full night and was just breathing room air at that point. Over the next few days, Zander continued to do well. They were just waiting on him to eat well on his own before they would release him. We were able to take him home on the 11th, so it was a pretty short stay (thankfully).

Hi julie, congratulations on Zander. I deleted the first post because I got RAchel's birth date wrong. (I put 6/6/06....) I thought I'd be able to edit but had to delete the whole thing. sheesh! anyway what I wanted to say was I don't know if you remember because you were only 11 but, Rachel, our #2 too, was born on 6/6/96 and I too got the epidural too late. It didnt' kick in until she was out. I felt really cheated about the whole thing. It's fun to visit your blog and see you as I was when I first met you. Now I'm OLD!!!! You were a lifesaver at the time helping so much with little Carly who is now 14 and will be a freshman next year! crazy huh! I'm sure I'll drop by regularly and visit your blog.
I hope you get some sleep tonight and I still love ya!
