(Steve) We were worried a bit about how Brinton would cope with Zander. Brinton didn't get to see Zander for a few days because he was too young to go inside the NICU. At Utah Valley when Zander got transferred from one NICU to another Brinton got to see him for the first time. Out in the hall we let Brinton hold Zander's hand, kiss him, and get his picture taken with him. After doing that Zander needed to be put into his new room. Brinton was sad to see Zander go. Out in the hall Brinton was crying and pointing to the door saying "baby, baby" over and over again. He really loved Zander from the start, and still does. Brinton always:
  • Asks us where the baby is when he wakes up in the morning and from a nap, or if we move him to another room when Brinton doesn't notice
  • Climbs up the side of the crib rail in Zander's room and stands on the bottom of the crib to see him
  • Gives him plenty of kisses...he knows that he kisses Zander on the head, not the lips
  • Pats the blanket that Zander has over him (even if Zander isn't under that part of the blanket)
  • Is concerned and makes it a point that Zander must leave the house or get in the car when ever he does. One time Brinton and I were getting ready to go out the door and Julie would come behind us a minute later with Zander. Brinton would not let us leave the house. He was so concerned about leaving his brother that he tried to pick up the car seat himself. It was pretty funny.

So, at least for now, Brinton is doing quite well with Zander. We really hope it lasts :)

Steve, you have some good boys. I love that Brinton is so concerned and loves Zander so much. You two have been teaching him very well up untill Zander's birth. Way to go! -Sam, Heidi, and Reyn.
